The extra flat rails add strength to the bunk and are suggested when large weight persons are using the bunk, or if used in Hostels, as adds lateral strength. etc.
It is suggested to add 2 of these ones on top and one on the bottom with the existing one…total of 3
Can also be added as a safety rail for small kids.
It is also a replacement part. Can be ordered with a cleat, if it is to be used as a side rail to hold a chipboard base
